I never liked milk until I was pregnant...than I grew to love it. I started buying vitamin D/whole milk when Avi had to drink it. She wasn't able to finish her gallons so I took the responsibility :)A friend told me that her vitamin D count was extremely low even though she had been taking a supplement (they checked her for it at a skin appointment). She's struggled a bit with depression so we laughed since a lack of vitamin D is linked to moods & depression. For some reason is was funny that it was possible her sadness in the past simply could have been a deficiency in vit D.
Vit D is also one of the benefits from sunshine. There's a mood disorder called SAD (seasonal affective disorder) where someone who feels "normal" throughout most the year feels more sad in the winter...aka..."winter blues".
So not being very nutritionally educated I was so happy to have a reason to drink my creamy milk. Being called vitamin D milk I thought it was rich with it & I started calling it my sunshine. I literally imagined I was swallowing sunshine when I drank it - and I grew quite attached.
Well I picked up a nutritional pamphlet from the health department the other day... It told me, "So if you choose fat free or lowfat milk you'll still receive all the nutrients of whole milk....the only difference you'll find is the fat and calories."
Fat free milk = 80 calories & 0 grams fat
Vit D/Whole = 150 calories & 8 grams fat
I'm not gonna lie...I don't count calories & I don't even know if 150 is a lot, but it totally burst my bubble. I was telling Porter my unhappy findings...his reply to me was, "No more sunshine." He sounded truly sorry for me.

Kami!!! This post made me SOOOOO happy! Thanks for being my sunshine today... plus, we're going to get plenty of sunshine this winter up at the Beav, right? I mean, if I can keep up! :)
Thats so funny! I can totally picture you drinking your milk with a huge smile on your face, imagining your insides being filled up with sunshine! :) you make me smile!
That was fun getting to see you the other day. glad the crafts turned out so cute!
You are so funny! We take vitamin D supplements... it really helps with the long, dark winter months and it's good for your immune system too (I think... I can't remember where I heard that now). Yeah, I'm sure you don't need to worry about those extra calories in your "sunshine" drink.
